Computer Cases?

What is a computer case, and can a computer run off just a case?Computer Cases?
Of course you need things in your case. You need motherboard, powersupply, Hard Drive, Proccessor, RAM, Video Card (if you are a gamer or multimedia type of person).

Basically thats all you need in that case to run a computer.

Then install your operating system. Its easy installing the hardware. Its just that finding hardware that is compatible and reliable for your needs is kinda tough.Computer Cases?
Like Jonathan said, the case is just the shell or the frame that holds all the parts that make up the computer. Building your own is a great way to learn how computers work but it is usually cheaper to buy one that is already built, unless you have special needs or desires that pre-built computers do not offer.

Check out a site like dell.com or gateway.com to get an idea what a built system would cost, with the things you want. If you decide to build your own, my favorite site for computer parts and electronics is newegg.com. Anandtech.com is a great place to compare components and get the latest news.

Basically you would need to buy:

Case

Power Supply

Motherboard

Processor

Memory

Hard drive(s)

Graphics card

Sound card

CD/DVD drive(s)

Case fans

Keyboard

Mouse

Speakers

Display

Operating system software (like Windows or Linux)

Software (office-type applications, antivirus, games, etc.)

Some motherboards have sound or very basic graphics adapters built in - you can still upgrade those if you like, though.

Linux can be downloaded for free - Ubuntu Linux is probably the most user friendly and has the most online support available. Open office (openoffice.org) is a free suite of office productivity software and has both Windows and Linux versions available. Avast.com has a good antivirus that is free for home use.

If you have the $$$, building your own, at least once, is a great experience.
A computer case is the shell that supports all of the components of the computer. It provides attachment points for various pieces of hardware and protects both the contents and the user from inadvertent contact. It is the box that you see when you look at a computer. Hope this helps.

Good luck
A computer case is just a shell of the computer system itself try and think of it as a protective layer, the case holds all the crucial components inside.

Cases vary in size, shape, design and beneficial architecture which is crucial for temperature and overall maintenance. If you are looking for a case you are most likely looking for a ATX case which is the standard these days, and always match you case depending on your other hardware size and needs.

Have fun, Jddcode1212.
A case is just a shell that holds all the parts of a computer like the hard drive and the motherboard. You need parts inside a computer case for it to function. ATX is simply the model. Older models would be the AT. ATX is just an upgraded model of the case.
Case is just like box to put assembled components (mobo, processor, VGA, etc.) inside, there's ussualy 3 fans or more (front, side %26amp; back). PC can run without case, but it will make your desk messy, because there are many cable inside of the CPU. It's quite dangerous too, because if your room is dusty, if the dust slip in the fan, it can disturb the airflow, make your PC very hot %26amp; decrease your PC lifetime.
Your computer can run without a case, if that is what you were asking.
