How do you measure computer case fans?

How are the sizes of computer case fans measred? We have 80mm and 120mm. Is it on the edge or the diagonal? Should they face blowing in or out?How do you measure computer case fans?

The overall diameter of the fans (tip to tip) is what is measured.





Fans on the back usually blow the heat out of the case. Especially if they are towards the upper part of the back.


Fans that are part of the power supply always blow out.


Fans on the front usually blow into the case.


Fans on the top blow hot air out.


Fans on the side either blow cool air directly onto a video card or the processor or they blow outside.


Study the requirements of the case and place the fans per their recommendations.





The idea is to cool the hotter parts and remove the hot air.
