Why Were Many of the Early Computer Cases and Monitors Beige?

I'm just wondering because It does seem like a cool color on the first Mac but on all the PCs at my school they're an ugly looking beige that just shows how much the supplies we have suck.

Why didn't they make them out of white or black? In all truth I don't care its just curiosity. Why Were Many of the Early Computer Cases and Monitors Beige?
Because the early ones were built for the government and the military and that is the universal color they used. There isn't a place for a red computer case in a war room. Why Were Many of the Early Computer Cases and Monitors Beige?
because computer creators were boring nerds who couldn't handle bright colors
