What are the drive bays in the computer cases for?

For example the 5.25';, 3.5';, and the expansion slots. What are they for/What could you put in them? What are the drive bays in the computer cases for?
The 5.25'; tend to fit CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drives

The 3.5'; are becoming obsolete due to the fact they fit Floppy drives which tend not to be used anymore.

You can get memory card readers - you can get ones that fit 5.25'; and ones that fit 3.5'; and they read SD, CF xD, USB etc.

You can also get fan-controllers that fit into these bays, and allow you to adjust the speed of your computers' fans. What are the drive bays in the computer cases for?
The drive bays are for drives - floppy drive, CD/DVD drive, additional hard drive
